Boston-based jazz pianist Yoko Miwa and emerging vocalist Mikayla Shirley have teamed up for their collaborative album The Midnight Hour, set for release on August 28, 2026, via Cupcakes & Muffins LLC. The musical partnership originated from spontaneous late-night performances at Boston’s The Mad Monkfish. Eschewing formal rehearsals and rigid arrangements, the duo built the album around live improvisation, intuitive interplay, and deep emotional resonance. Recorded at Q Division Studios, the collection bridges traditional and contemporary boundaries by reinterpreting jazz standards, Broadway tunes, Brazilian music, pop classics (such as The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows"), and modern songwriting within the evolving framework of the Modern Songbook.
