Red Spirit Singers, a Northern Ute vocal and drum ensemble from Utah, have released a new album documenting their ancestral musical traditions. The recording, produced by Ian Brennan, captures a live performance of ceremonial chants and percussion on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. This project aims to preserve sacred tribal heritage through raw, unamplified audio recordings. Thirteen vocalists and ten percussionists use collective unison and traditional instruments, including a large central drum and unique corrugated sleds, to create a powerful acoustic sound. The session concludes with a solo by Joseph Kanip, embodying the group's enduring commitment to passing their legacy down to future generations.
