Mozambican-born drummer, composer, and bandleader Chico Matada, now based in Finland, has developed a distinctive compositional voice bridging traditional African rhythms with modern jazz, cinematic textures, and free improvisation. The foundational pillar of his music stems from the Ndokodo rhythmic traditions of the Ndau people.

The culmination of seven years of artistic evolution manifests in his album Chicollective. The record seamlessly weaves deeply rooted African rhythmic heritage with exploratory modern forms. Shifting fluidly between contemplative, meditative atmospheres and vibrant polyrhythmic interplay, the compositions create an immersive sonic space designed for reflection and emotional connection.
