Sbarara is a vibrant and rare record from the late apartheid era in South Africa, representing the distinctive local genre of "Bubblegum" (South African synthetic dance pop/disco with elements of jazz fusion and Afrobeat). The group Step Ahead consisted of virtuoso musicians (including guitarist Blackie Sibisi) who not only released their own material but also served as backing bands for the era's leading Afropop stars, such as Brenda Fassie.
