Kaoru Watanabe - The Arch (2026) [Hi-Res]

New York-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Kaoru Watanabe, who has earned global acclaim collaborating with celebrated artists including André 3000, Yo-Yo Ma, Laurie Anderson, and the Silkroad Ensemble, is set to release his full-length album The Arch. Arriving September 18, 2026, via New Amsterdam Records in partnership with Figure 8 Recording, the record was developed over a year-long residency with Grammy-winning producer William Brittelle and executive producer Shahzad Ismaily, serving as a cathartic exploration of his personal sonic history.

The 10-track collection delivers a cathartic synthesis of traditional Japanese performing arts, contemporary jazz, avant-garde, and electronic elements. Kaoru Watanabe seamlessly integrates authentic timbres of traditional Japanese instruments—shinobue and ryuteki flutes, taiko drums, narimono percussion, and the 13-string koto zither—into dense, multi-layered arrangements where he personally performs on piano, synthesizers, tenor saxophone, and harp. The record presents a fluid, shifting soundworld that bridges centuries of acoustic heritage with modern jazz improvisation.
