Jo Soegono - Prof Jo (2025) [Hi-Res]

Indonesian singer-songwriter Jo Soegono, born Yoakim Soegono, works out of Jakarta, reviving the cultural traditions of the Southeast Asian music scene from the 1950s through the 1970s. During that era, musicians across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam actively blended soul and latin music with local languages and regional dialects.

His album Prof Jo draws deep inspiration from classic Latin American romantic songs and the artistic legacy of performers like Eydie Gormé with Los Panchos. Centered on themes of love and romance, the compositions integrate traditional Brazilian samba and latin jazz rhythms with lyrics delivered in Indonesian and eastern dialects. The standout track "Hujan Deras" earned recognition within the Indonesian underground scene for its seamless blend of Latin grooves and native linguistic elements.
