Danny Barwick - Solace (2026) [Hi-Res]

Australian musician, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Danny Barwick released a monumental 90-minute instrumental ambient album, Solace, exploring themes of peace, stillness, grief, and emotional restoration. Developed over four years, the project originated from improvisational piano sessions by Melbourne pianist Colin Hopkins, recorded at the studio of composer Luke Howard. Danny Barwick and Colin Hopkins established subtle emotional themes and life reflections, which Colin Hopkins then translated into 5-to-10-minute spontaneous compositions.

From these raw recordings, Danny Barwick extracted the most tender moments, slowing them down by 40% to create looping textures and spacious structural sections. On top of this electroacoustic foundation, he layered guitar improvisations by Stephen Magnusson, bass clarinet and saxophone by Julien Wilson, accordion by Steve Grant, string arrangements, and guest solo performances. The album bridges the sonic aesthetics of the renowned jazz record label ECM with modern electro-acoustic ambient production, turning Australian jazz improvisation into meditative, cinematic soundscapes. Engineered, mixed, and mastered with contributions from Luke Howard and Gareth Thomson, the album was released on Amica Records.
