Jean-Michel Blais - mirador (2026) [Hi-Res]

Canadian neoclassical pianist and composer Jean-Michel Blais presents “Mirador”, his first solo full-length effort following his 2025 collaboration with harpist Lara Somogyi. Centered around themes of childhood, nostalgia, and imagined refuges created to process adult life, the project merges solo piano with an expanded acoustic ensemble.

The record features a string quartet, a 12-piece wordless baroque vocal ensemble, and Andean instrumentalist Tulio Velazco Villagra. Musically, the 12 tracks weave together post-classical structures with world, folk, and classical forms, ranging from the flamenco rhythms of “Granada” and South American carnavalito patterns to sacred choral writing on “Kyrie” and minimalist textures inspired by his residency at the Arvo Pärt Centre in Estonia.
