Nanaco Sato - LUST (2026) [Hi-Res]

Japanese singer, poet, and polymath Nanaco Sato, recognized as a pioneer of the Tokyo Shibuya-kei movement, has released the long-lost album “LUST” via the UK label Gearbox Records. Originally recorded at London's Maison Rouge Studios between 1996 and 1997, the material remained unreleased in the artist's personal archive for 29 years before its official launch.

The recording sessions relied on pure spontaneity and live jam sessions. Nanaco Sato brought her written poetry into the studio and provided atmospheric concepts, around which the ensemble developed dynamic arrangements on the spot. The recording lineup featured guitarists Susumu Osada and Dan Boutwood, bassist James Denham, drummer Charlie Price, percussionist Danny Cummings, and renowned folk guitarist John Renbourn, with sound engineering handled by Akira Fujii.

Spanning 14 tracks, the record integrates experimental pop, avant-garde rock, abstract jazz vocals, psychedelia, and global folk influences. The sonic spectrum ranges from the dark grunge-infused momentum of “Lust – Love Underground” to Indian sitar textures, Tibetan motifs, and funk-rock. The release captures the exploratory ethos of Nanaco Sato, whose career bridges avant-garde music, photography, and filmmaking.
