Teodros Makonnen - Teodros Makonnen With His Organ (2026) [Hi-Res]

The recording “Teodros Makonnen With His Organ” by keyboardist, producer, and sound designer Teodros Makonnen (famously known as Teddy Mak) serves as a foundational milestone in the digitization of Ethiopian popular music during the early 1980s. Grounded in music theory and American jazz education initiated by his father, Captain Makonnen Beri, Teodros pioneered the integration of drum machines, sequencing, and electronic organs into traditional arrangements amidst a strict military curfew. Recorded in a single live take using a two-deck Yamaha organ, the album reinterpreted traditional Ethiopian melodies into dreamlike, synth-driven soundscapes, transforming the technological transition into a brand-new creative direction for Ethio-jazz and synth-pop.
