Ismael Rivera, Rafael Cortijo - Con Todos Los Hierros: Everything But The Kitchen Sink! (Remastered 2026) (2026) [Hi-Res]

Puerto Rican singer Ismael “Maelo” Rivera is one of the emblematic voices of salsa and Afro-Caribbean music, still remembered for his signature cry “ecuajei.” He died on May 13, and the 31st anniversary of his death is a moment to recall a man who stayed true to his roots, remained simple and humble, and left behind a complicated legacy. His repertoire spans plena and bomba with a wide range of themes, and it is considered essential material for studying Latin popular music.

The nickname “El Sonero Mayor” (“the Chief Sonero”) was given to him by Benny Moré, one of the greatest figures of 20th-century popular music. His mother, Doña Margarita, said his favorite singer was Tito Rodríguez.

One of his notable releases is Con Todos los Hierros: Everything but the Kitchen Sink (Tico Records, LP 1158, 1967), recorded with Rafael Cortijo and his combo (Rafael Cortijo y su Combo).
