Down And Out In Paris And London (2009) is one of the most mature and cohesive albums in the discography of the British-European project The Tangent. Inspired by George Orwell's classic autobiographical novella "Down and Out in Paris and London," frontman Andy Tillison reimagined its concept in the context of contemporary social stratification, the 2008 financial crisis, and the urban alienation of 21st-century Europe. Enlisting the support of a virtuoso lineup, including guitarist Manny Charlton (Manning), bassist Jonathan Vargas, and members of Beardfish (particularly guitarist David Zackrisson), Tillison created a large-scale, socially responsive, and impeccably composed sonic canvas.
