Magulo - Magulo (2026) [Hi-Res]

The Los Angeles quintet Magulo is releasing a self-titled album on the label Mixto, as a limited pressing on opaque white vinyl. The group is led by saxophonist Aaron Leibowitz, known as Ronny Sax; the lineup also includes guitarist Christian Wunderlich, Gabe Steiner on trumpet and keys, bassist JP Maramba, and drummer Vince Fossett. The band held a long-running residency at the Los Angeles bar Seven Grand.

The record was cut in a single session in a Hollywood Hills living room, so it captures the ensemble’s live, intimate, improvisation-driven sound. The music blends Afrobeat, Ethio-jazz, Surf Rock, and Motown. The program includes “Yekermo,” “Ma Kulit Pt. I & II,” “Desert Drip,” and a band version of Henry Mancini’s “Lujon.”

The edition is a single LP in a gatefold sleeve with an obi-strip and a full-color jacket; photography by Kit Tincher and art design by Dewey Sanders. “Opaque White Vinyl” is part of the release title and describes the look of the pressing.
