Ziad Al Rahbani - Ana Moush Kafer (2008)

Lebanese musician and songwriter Ziad Rahbani, son of the great singer Fairuz, recorded the album Ana Moush Kafer in 1985 at his own By-Pass Studio in Beirut, at the height of the Lebanese Civil War. The record blends the Arabic musical tradition with jazz-funk, bossa nova, and European folk, which can be heard in the curious arrangement of “A’anitham,” the sophisticated, sliding “Shou A’ada Ma Bada,” the American-sounding pomp of “Bhaneek,” and its memorable closer. The album was originally released only on cassette (on the Relax-In label) and gradually gained cult status, but it had never been issued on vinyl. Wewantsounds, continuing its series of Rahbani reissues, is now releasing it on vinyl for the first time: the sound has been newly remastered, the artwork replicates the original 1985 cassette cover, and new liner notes were written by Mario Choueiry of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.
