Kanaan - Kanaan (2026) [Hi-Res]

The Norwegian band Kanaan marks ten years together in 2026 with its tenth album, titled Kanaan. The self-titled name reflects the record’s essence: it grew out of a musical foundation built over a decade and sounds powerful, at times like an earthquake. The album digs deeper into the genres that have defined the band’s style: the melodic passages are catchy, the psychedelic parts wilder and more unhinged, the retro analog sound remains vintage and unpolished, and the riffs are heavier than ever. Yet the band’s signature sound remains intact. The musicians see the record as a celebration of their musical and artistic achievements and of their long friendship.

The members have grown up, but their drive to create has not faded: they still immerse themselves in the music in the studio day and night, playing, jamming, and composing. The album was recorded at Athletic Sound in Halden, which they compare to a black hole where only the band, engineer Dag Erik Johansen, and the music existed.

Despite frequent touring and annual releases, the musicians run numerous side projects. Drummer Ingvald André Vassbø plays in the expanded orchestra Full Earth, which performs his compositions, in the experimental psych/free jazz project Sex Magick Wizards, and recently worked with the legends Motorpsycho. Bassist Eskild Myrvoll plays in the hardcore band Daufødt and, until recently, in the black metal band Blodkvalt. Guitarist Ask Vatn Strøm plays jazz-infused indie in ¡BangBang Watergun!, blues in Soft City, and lead guitar in the dream pop band Cloud Cuckoo. This eclectic mix shows the musicians’ versatility and explains the sources of inspiration behind the Kanaan sound.
