Larry Manteca - Erotica 70 (2026) [Hi-Res]

The Milan-based collective Larry Manteca, known for witty reimaginings of classic Italian soundtrack aesthetics, releases the album Erotica 70. The record explores the sonic world of 1970s Italian commedia sexy, the erotic-comedy genre that shaped the band members’ cinematic upbringing. It also serves as a tribute to Piero Umiliani in his centenary year, a composer closely tied to the cinema of that era.

The nod to Umiliani is present in every detail: the recording uses vintage Eminent synth and Wurlitzer electric piano, delivering the signature blend of jazz, funk, electronics, and sensual charm. The standout track “Lando” is a playful homage to actor Lando Buzzanca, who appeared in many films scored by Umiliani, including the iconic 1973 comedy La schiava io ce l’ho e tu no.

The band is led by multi-instrumentalists Alessandro Paiola and Riccardo Danieli, joined by flutist Carlo Pelsa, drummer Andrea Quattrini, and vocalists Valentina Castelli and Alessandra Maria Manzoni. Recorded in studios across Northern Italy, the album is conceived as the imaginary soundtrack to a vanished Italy: it sounds like music from a provincial cinema, a smoky late-night club, or a long-lost 70s film, yet feels fresh and contemporary.
