Dave Frishberg - Oklahoma Toad (Remastered 2026) (2026) [Hi-Res]

Dave Frishberg is one of the most distinguished pianists in modern jazz, who also became an internationally known composer, lyricist, and solo performer with a devoted following. His songs “My Attorney Bernie,” “Van Lingle Mungo,” “Peel Me a Grape,” and “You Are There” have long held cult status, and his compositions are in the repertoires of artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, and Mel Tormé.

The album “Oklahoma Toad,” co-produced by David Rosner and Margo Guryan, marked the starting point of his career as a songwriter-performer: by then Frishberg had already earned a reputation as a sideman and accompanist, but this was the first time he sang his own songs on record.

The new vinyl edition presents, for the first time on this format, the artist-approved producer’s mix with all ten original tracks. It comes with a bonus 7" single: a version of the classic “Peel Me a Grape,” which Frishberg has recorded many times, and “A World Without Verbs,” previously unreleased material written for the “Grammar Rock” series of Schoolhouse Rock and submitted to ABC. Liner notes are by Bill Reed.
