Franz Hautzinger, Philip Zoubek, Tony Buck, Ignaz Schick - Pulsar (Live) (2026)

The European improvising supergroup Pulsar—featuring Australian drummer Tony Buck (of The Necks), Austrian trumpeter Franz Hautzinger, sound artist Ignaz Schick, and pianist Philip Zoubek—has released its second full-length album. Recorded live at Cologne's Loft in December 2024, the album marks a radical sonic shift from their debut release, «Silt».

Bypassing rigid orthodoxies of free improvisation, the quartet merges free jazz, electroacoustic, and experimental noise into an ever-shifting sonic landscape. Spanning two extended pieces—the abrasive and propelled "Tendrils" alongside the hushed, fragile "Valis"—the ensemble weaves fractured rhythms, microtonal brass textures, turntable manipulation, and prepared piano into an intricate, continuous dialogue.

Franz Hautzinger - quartertone trumpet, electronics
Philip Zoubek - prepared piano, synthesizer
Ignaz Schick - turntables, sampler
Tony Buck - drum
