Dean Kalaitzidis - Bright Tree (2026) [Hi-Res]

Musician and composer Dean Kalaitzidis presents an album created, performed, and recorded on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin nation in Australia. The work is dedicated to the memory of his four grandparents — Margaret, Kitsa, Clarrie, and Kosta — symbolically reuniting through time and space. The poetic concept of the release centers around the imagery of the Bright Tree, an inner spiritual journey, the pursuit of freedom, and the hidden threads connecting unseen universes. Each piece on the album traces a distinct stage of this passage, moving from awakening in a new world and facing the unknown to finding connection among the stars and reaching the journey's end on a sunset-lit hilltop. Musically and structurally, the project draws deep inspiration from the comprovisational approach of Wayne Shorter and the flexible architecture framework of Andrea Keller, who served as the primary mentor, alongside contributions from educators Dylan van der Schyff, Danilo Perez, sound engineers Pat, Lachlan, and a close ensemble of collaborating musicians.
