Adama Barry - Nawaawi (2026) [Hi-Res]

Burkina Faso musician Adama Barry releases the album “Nawaawi”, delving even deeper into the Fulani traditions of his homeland while at the same time encountering Norwegian folk music. At the heart of the encounter is kveding, a Norwegian vocal tradition performed by Øyonn Groven Myhren, which gives Fulani music a new approach.

Barry plays his own instruments — the douliarou and serendou flutes and the hoddou and djourken string instruments — which are joined by the seljefløyte (Norwegian willow flute) and a Norwegian lyre played by Myhren. The lyrics offer a glimpse of the daily life of the Fulani people, interwoven with anecdotes from Barry’s own life, delivered in his expressive and powerful voice.

The music was commissioned by Global Oslo Music (2025). The cover art is by OkeyKat Illustrations; the album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jock Loveband at Urban Sound Studios in Oslo, Norway. It is released by Global Sonics with financial support from The Arts Council Norway.
