Miles Pillinger - Belonging (2026) [Hi-Res]

British drummer and composer Miles Pillinger makes his debut as a bandleader with the LP “Belonging,” released on October 23, 2026 on his own label, Miles Pillinger Music. All the compositions are his own and blend Brazilian and South African influences with a modern, chamber-style jazz and fusion approach. The arrangements are built on rhythmic sophistication and warm, mellow horn writing.

The core of the recording is a quintet: Olivia Cuttill (trumpet), Tom Harris (piano), Benjy Sandler (tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, flute) and Josh Vadiveloo (upright bass). Several pieces feature guests: vocalist Thandanani Gumede, percussionist Emma Marsh and tenor saxophonist Helen Pillinger. Key tracks include “Elvin’s Beat,” a tribute to the legendary drummer Elvin Jones, and “Momentary Peace,” both highlighting precise drum statements and melodic dialogue between trumpet and saxophones/flute. The album closes with “The Other Side” and “The Other Other Side,” a pair of pieces about uncertainty and personal growth. The making and release of the record were made possible by the Peter Whittingham Award for Jazz from the charity Help Musicians.
