Pianist and composer Juan J. Ochoa releases “Something to Remember,” a work in which the boundary between acoustic and electronic sound is deliberately blurred. He combines prepared and traditional piano with delicate electronic processing, turning the piano into a complex sound-generating organism with unpredictable timbral possibilities. For him, every preparation is a compositional choice that changes the instrument’s voice without stripping it of its physical weight and natural resonance. The result joins experimental technique with emotional directness, producing music that is personal and meditative.

The album is structured around the logic of a vinyl record. Side A consists of five self-contained pieces, each a complete exploration of sound and feeling. Side B is devoted entirely to the three-movement suite “Earth,” a more extended statement in which ideas unfold across a broader canvas.

The record is released on Protomaterial Records exclusively via Bandcamp, in vinyl and digital formats, and is deliberately absent from streaming services. This encourages attentive, start-to-finish listening and fits the label’s philosophy of music made for deep listening. Ochoa’s sound continues the extended-piano lineage — from John Cage to Hauschka — yet has its own contemplative character: memory, texture, and melody are interwoven, and the music is both intellectually rigorous and deeply affecting.
