Thompson Egbo-Egbo - Just A Thought (2026) [Hi-Res]

Toronto pianist and composer Thompson Egbo-Egbo recorded the album Just A Thought with his longtime trio — drummer Jeff Halischuk and bassist Randall Hall. Their years of shared chemistry define the record’s sound: cinematic, lyrical, and unhurried, with a quiet undercurrent of intensity. The program includes two original compositions by Egbo-Egbo and thoughtful reworkings of pieces by Kenny Garrett, Paul Simon, Bud Powell, Robert Glasper, and Astor Piazzolla — spanning post-bop, nuevo tango, and R&B-inflected jazz. On several tracks the trio is joined by the Odin Quartet, whose strings add warmth and orchestral depth to the arrangements. The album alternates between swinging trio interplay and lush chamber textures. It will appeal to listeners of contemporary jazz piano and cinematic instrumental music, especially those who appreciate Robert Glasper, Brad Mehldau, and Fred Hersch.
