Moses Boyd - Songs For Sinners (2026) [Hi-Res]

London drummer, producer, and composer Moses Boyd emerged in the mid-2010s as half of a minimalist, experimental duo with saxophonist Binker Golding (their 2022 album Feeding the Machine). Blending the swing of jazz masters, the afrobeat of Tony Allen, and hip-hop grooves, he became a driving force of London’s young music scene. His 2020 solo debut Dark Matter revealed a producer who weaves grime, broken beat, and dubstep rhythms into jazz, reflecting the moods and hopes of a globalized youth.

His new album Songs For Sinners is the most personal of his career. In it, Boyd returns to his family’s gospel roots in the Pentecostal Church and runs them through nu-jazz, electronic music, and sound system culture. Its twelve tracks form a journey toward inner joy and peace, with the human voice at the center.

Vocalists from different musical worlds join him: Zara McFarlane, Shantéh, and Amber-Simone in a soul-tinged gospel register, and rapper Chuck Strangers on “I Surrender All.” Gospel parts sung by his own relatives were recorded in his kitchen in an almost documentary style and woven into a sound that is both synthetic and organic. Organ, saxophone, piano, and synthesizers sit atop drum’n’bass, trap, and afro-house grooves. Behind the flawless, polished production, the soul and struggles of a truly authentic artist come through.
