Swedish-Danish jazz singer Anna Kruse made her recording debut in 2009 with *Lyckokatt*, an album featuring songs based on poems by the Finland-Swedish poet Edith Södergran—a leading figure in Swedish modernism. In 2017, she released *Himlens rand*, which also draws from Södergran’s work and features Stina Ekblad as a poetry reader.
Stina Ekblad contributes to five of the tracks, serving as both a reader and an interpreter; she effectively opens up new dimensions within Edith Södergran’s poetry. The album also showcases a rewarding and substantial collaboration with the string ensemble Who Killed Bambi.
All compositions are by Anna Kruse, featuring highly varied arrangements that draw from jazz, folk, and classical music. The music captures several key elements of Edith Södergran’s poetry: its fragility and transience, its grounding in the everyday, and the grandeur found in simplicity. It is a production that is both compelling and deeply moving.
