San Francisco Bay Area musician Dimitri Khanafin Reyes released his debut album, The Shape Of Return, to convey personal life experiences through instrumental music. After earning two degrees from Tulane University, he immersed himself in New Orleans’ jazz scene, performing at major festivals and studying Afro-Caribbean rhythms in Cuba. This solid foundation helped him bring together traditional jazz influences and a contemporary, ever-evolving artistic voice. The album features a carefully selected ensemble of local musicians, including Jackson Schaeffer, Max Moran, and Diego Benjamin Delgado. Dimitri Khanafin Reyes describes his music as contemporary instrumental, viewing each composition as an introspective story that will change and develop in future performances. Presenting the project as a therapeutic way to work through emotions, he hopes to help listeners navigate their own life challenges.
