Larry Heard - Ice Castles (2026)

Larry, a master of deep house and beatdown jazz, is bringing back his 1995 album, reissued by popular demand. Originally released as “Sceneries Not Songs – Volume Tu,” a year after the first volume, it now returns remastered under the title “Icecastles.” The record is an elegant blueprint for much of the future jazz and refined house that followed. It is conceived as a single journey best heard in full: it opens with the R&B-tinged “Crystal Fantasy,” moves on to the star-dusted house of “Tryblennasense,” then to the beatdown pieces “Romantic Sway” and “Precious Tears.” Next come the stepping beatdown of “Techno-Centric” and the twinkle-toed deep house of “Forbidden” and “Carla’s Dance.” The title track, “Ice Castles,” balances rough and smooth in a swinging groove, while “Nature’s Bliss” features synth tones reminiscent of Haruomi Hosono.
