TheYoungMothers debut release, ‘A Mothers Work is Never Done‘ , is not only Ingebrigt Håker Flaten’s fourth album as a bandleader but also his most musically diverse effort to date. Known internationally for contributing his signature robust sound to acclaimed releases with The Cherry Thing (with Swedish pop star, Neneh Cherry) in 2012, and BOOT (with The Thing) in 2013, Flaten has spent the better part of 20 years traversing the globe with an ever-changing cast of international musicians, from heavy Norwegian rockers (Chloroform) to South African horn player (Zim Ngquana, RIP).
While ‘A Mothers Work is Never Done’ is clearly inspired by his home base of Austin, Texas, it’s just as easy to hear how the influences of Scandinavia, Chicago (both former homes to Flaten) and those twenty-plus years of international touring came together to inspire this extraordinary and organic melding of genres. This album is an inspired musical rapport born of Flaten’s knack for writing beautiful, complex compositions, and finding the perfect musicians to take the music into raucous and spectacular directions.
