Alex Martin (jazz guitar) found an ideal vehicle for this effort in the quartet Amérique Latine, formed with vocalist Lena Seikaly (of Palestinian descent), bassist Leonardo Lucini, and drummer Alejandro Lucini (brothers who grew up in the Copacabana neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro).
What do you get when you put together a Franco-American jazz guitarist, former novelist, and poet with a Palestinian-American vocalist and two brothers from Rio who have been making rhythms together since they were old enough to slap their hands against the table? Amérique Latine, a Washington, DC-based quartet that has just released its first CD, Nostalgia for Terra Incognita.
