In 2013, I felt the urge to go forward with a new project that could help me grow both as a trombone player and as a composer. The goal was to play music without doubt and fear, and to be completely free with my artistic choices, at all times. So, the trio format seemed totally appropriate to help me reach, or, at least maybe, get a bit closer to my goal. After playing with Remi-Jean LeBlanc over the years, in his 7tet and in other different projects, I was convinced that he would perfect for the situation. His great musicality and musicianship, his consistent listening and his virtuosity, always serving musical needs, makes him one of the best bassists on todays jazz scene. I had the chance to play with Rich Irwin in bands like the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra, Trombone Action and many others in the past few years. His time feel and sense of form, his listening and great musicality... the way he makes his drums sound like a full orchestra... Its just amazing! So, those two together... Jean-Nicolas Trottier
