This disc presents an exploration of both C.P.E. Bach's world of expression and a neglected instrument, the tangent piano. Carl Philipp Emanuel's music was much pored-over by Haydn and much admired by Beethoven; it also profoundly influenced countless other composers and this program shows just how deeply his influence ran. The recording also offers an opportunity to hear the tangent piano, an instrument that was very popular in Germany at the time but has since fallen out of favor.
