aphew goodman is the most recent solo project of Budapest, Hungary-based songwriter- producer Gabor Joo. Originally a bass player and drummer in various post-punk bands throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s, Gabor first started recording solo material over 20 years ago, initially with whichever instrument he could lay his hands on, then came computer-based music and the use of digital audio workstation software. This was followed by a lengthy and gradual shift toward hardware gear, so today Gabor is surrounded by synths, drum machines and effect pedals. Along with the shift of taste in instruments, his musical output had also changed a great deal over time and today he primarily focuses on electronic music, because, in his words, “that’s the most effortless and inspiring platform or medium for me to get whatever is going on inside me out there”. Gabor started releasing his electronic tunes as Clipondildo, but later renamed the project Cliponville OrkEstra, which has been dormant for a couple of years. Today his main (but definitely not mainstream) act is the electro-psych-pop duo Adori Office with vocalist/songwriter Andrea Kanya, while with the long, droning instrumental compositions aphew goodman serves more as a personal and experimental melting pot where anything is possible and permitted. “I can’t say I’m not worried and excited about many things that have been happening in our world for some time now. I guess my music is driven by both the worrying and the excitement. “
