After a series of excellent debut albums that showcased the deeper end of the outernational field, the TAL label is fast showing itself to be unconcerned with strict genres or codes. From African chanting to mind-bending electronic experiments, this new collaborative release from German veterans Katharina Grosse and Stefan Schneider are a clear sign that the imprint has no intentions of pleasing one, single-minded audience. And we love that. Tiergarten spreads across nine segments, a blockade of near-beatless sonic sketches that have most likely been built with a modular set-up; the sounds are many to digest, but they've been assembled in a masterful German style that has become synymous with quality and precision. If you're into the output emanating from the PAN camp, then both this album and the TAL label should most certainly be on your radar.
