Bazzi’s dreamy 2017 breakout hit “Mine” finds the rising pop singer on a full charm offensive: He stares into her eyes, compliments her smile, compares her to Mariah Carey. On his soulful debut album, he maintains that momentum by serving up one starry-eyed serenade after another. “Stuntin’ like you Madonna/That beautiful persona/Energy go crazy/I might have your babies,” he flirts on “Star,” a highlife fantasy about making it in Hollywood. Riding shotgun throughout the project is production duo Rice ‘N’ Peas, who use twinkling synths and pianos to bring a touch of wide-eyed euphoria to every song.
