It’s a 4CD box, showcasing the band’s five (out of print) albums for Acid Jazz and Big Cat, as well as throwing in a number of rarities and unissued tracks. Each album is housed in a replica card sleeve, sat alongside a 16-page booklet featuring rare photos and new sleevenotes from Corduroy bassist Rich Searle.
Having evolved out of cult 80s bands Boys Wonder and Doctor & The Medics, Corduroy were one of the principal architects of the early 90s Acid Jazz sound, releasing five albums between 1992 and 1999 for the Acid Jazz and Big Cat labels. Their Acid Jazz-era recordings have been out-of-print for many years. Each album is housed in a cute replica card sleeve within a stylish box set, which also sports a 16-page booklet featuring rare photos and new sleeve-notes from Corduroy bassist Rich Searle.
In total, Very Yeah boasts 22 non-album tracks, 17 of which are previously unreleased. Also present are the singles: Something in My Eye, The Frighteners, Mini and their funky rewrite of Lemmy’s old Hawkwind classic Motorhead .
Each studio CD is swelled to nearly 80 minutes, including all their non-album B-sides, a raft of previously unreleased demos and some bonus demos captured before the band signed to Big Cat in 1997. Perhaps the most exciting of the unissued tracks is a hitherto unheard vocal version of Very Yeah , which appeared as an instrumental on Out Of Here. This was once scheduled to be a single on Acid Jazz. Also present is their very first demo version of E-Type (used for the promo video) and covers of two famous US TV themes (Sesame Street and Quincy Jones Hikky Bur, from the Bill Cosby Show).
