The J. Geils Band - Ladies Invited (1990)

This 1973 release happened to soon after Geils put out their block-buster "Bloodshot". Clearly over shadowed, "Ladies Invited" has its own special uniqueness that only a true Geils fan can appreciate, but don't leave it out of your collection even if you're only an admirer. Often considered their HALT to fame, It's not a diamond-in-the-ruff, and I only gave it 4 stars, and it was a very borderline 3. Unfortunately, this vinyl was also sandwiched between the only 5 star disc "Bloodshot" & "Nightmares" that I did give the full array of stars. I also gave "Blow Your Face Out" the full 5 star complement , even though thats a greatest hits LP. But get "Ladies Invited" - it grows on you and has the only studio release of they're great slow blues track - "Chimes". The "Blow Your Face Out" LP has the best recording of "Chimes" with its extended & live version, where Magic, Seth, and J. all take turns cranking out a solo - sweet, sweet, sweet!
