Chicago drummer and bandleader Charles Rumback releases his new album Cartoons on Cloud Ear Records on October 30, 2026. He recorded it as a trio with his longtime collaborators Jim Baker and John Tate, who have played alongside him for many years. Guitarist Jeff Parker joins them, and his contribution is especially noticeable on the first single, “Two Kinds of Camoflauge” — an unhurried, translucent piece running past eight minutes that opens the first half of the record. Rumback is well known as a sideman and project partner, having worked with Ryley Walker, Black Duck, Elijah McLaughlin and others, but here he once again leads his own group. The album is built as a dynamic set in which the chamber-like warmth of the trio blends with Parker’s guitar lines.
