Critical Praise for FMB DZ
“Detroit is arguably the hottest rap region in the U.S. right now, and FMB DZ is one of the foremost street rappers in the city at the moment.” – XXL

“Among the most talented [in Detroit], combining clever wordplay, and a natural ear for beats, with sobering storytelling” – The FADER

“Detroit is on the cusp of dominating the national hip-hop landscape like Atlanta once did, and FMB DZ is one of the city’s strongest talents” – HYPEBEAST

The Single:

Wielding an understated menace atop energetic instrumentals, FMB DZ is one of the most gifted artists in the cresting new wave of Detroit rappers. Breaking his rhymes down into an enchanting cadence, allowing space for his lyrics to breathe, FMB DZ fucks the party up on “Lit,” his latest single. Featuring an appearance from rap legend E-40, the new single is a lyrical showcase for both rappers, who flex tough-talking and witty bars. Quoth E-40: “If I was a pimp, I’d be a genius/I’d be the first pimp to send a ho to Venus.” Premiered by PUB, “Lit” is the latest taste from In My Bag, his upcoming project. “Lit” follows the glistening and triumphant “Fast Money,” premiered last week by The FADER, and“60 Seconds,” which The FADER named one of the Ten Best Rap Songs Right Now

One of the most prominent emcees in Detroit’s new rap renaissance, FMB DZ built his audience with his consistent output and unstoppable work ethic. Born in the Plymouth section of Detroit’s West Side, DZ grew up idolizing hometown heroes like Eminem, Obie Trice, and Doughboyz Cashout, rapping throughout high school to make ends meet. In 2016, DZ started to build buzz with his impressive music videos. “I made sure I shot two or three videos a week for two months straight,” says DZ. “We spread the word through these videos. After that, my social media came about. I had a million views on YouTube long before I ever had 10,000 followers.” On the strength local hits such as “The Truth” (5 million YouTube views), “Hold Me Down” (6 million views), and “Yesterday” (1.7 million views since April 28), which features fellow Detroit rising star Sada Baby and appeared on the popular mixtape The Gift, FMB DZ became the most popular artist in Detroit on YouTube, streaming more over six months than the likes of Future and Chris Brown. With his next project, and an upcoming joint project with Sada Baby, DZ plans to put the city on his back, dragging the new Motown sound into the mainstream.
