Fresh off the success of their latest album New Path, Essaie pas (Marie Davidson and Pierre Guerineau) share a remix EP full of jittery techno and electronic body music. Remixes come from Anthony Rother, Khidja, and Schwefelgelb. All three artists take the dystopian, paranoid energy of the original tracks and reshape them into something both sinister and danceable.
German electro powerhouse Anthony Rother takes the ominous noise of album closer “New Path” and turns it into a heart-racing 4/4 epic, creating and capturing tension for seven minutes. There’s also an instrumental version, a beatless version, and a radio edit, so the choice is yours. On Khidja’s rework of “Complet Brouillé,” the Hungarian duo (Hivern Discs, [Emotional] Especial) preserve the original track’s steady strut and add in bleepy ambience, not dissimilar to more recent Eric Copeland. Finally, rising German EBM act Schwefelgelb bring out the kicks and acidic synths in “Substance M” for a hardcore stomper of a remix.
