Joyce Jonathan is a young singer songwriter who is one of France's first major successes to be spawned by the internet. Born on November 3, 1989, Jonathan revealed a precocious talent for music as a child; she began playing the piano when she was only five, and picked up the guitar a few years later. Jonathan began writing songs when she was 11 years old, and in 2007, she began posting recordings of her songs on MySpace. By 2009, she had enough confidence in her work to submit some demos of her songs to My Major Company, a French online music service that allows new artists to distribute their work on the internet and solicit contributions from fans. My Major posted some of Jonathan's songs, and the response was enthusiastic enough that she was able to finance the recording of her first album, with donations posted on the site. Jonathan's first single, "Je Ne Sais Pas," debuted online in December 2009, and with her clear, sweet voice and emotionally resonant lyrics, the song soon found a large audience. Jonathan's debut album, Sur Mes Gardes, was recorded with producer Louis Bertignac and appeared in stores in January 2010; the album was awarded a Gold disc five months later, and Jonathan soon gained popularity as a live act, playing some of the most prestigious venues in France.
