Definitely on the cutting edge of the modern jazz scene for awhile, here's another good one from soul jazz records.
Jessica Lauren, a keyboard player who i had heard on other releases, but never as a leader, gets her chance to shine on this one.
All of the tracks are self-penned and range from groovy acid jazz to crazy, yet strangely rooted, free jazz.
No matter what the style, all of the tracks are extremely creative, which you don't hear much anymore, especially in an electric jazz setting.
Chris Bowden, the outstanding saxophone player who has some great releases out under his own name, helps out on many of the cuts and does the horn arrangements.
Most of the tunes are upbeat, instrumental, electric quartet or quintet numbers, but an occasional trombone, vibraphone or trumpet is added to the group.
In addition, a few of the cuts have vocals. The free jazz cuts are hard to follow at times, but they won't keep you from digging this disc.
