Line-up: Jon Hiseman, Chris Farlowe, Clem Clempson, Dave Greenslade, Mark Clarke & Barbara Thompson
The more time that passed from the day in November 1971 that Jazz-rock pioneers Colosseum split up, the less likely it seemed that they would ever work together again. However, more than 40 years down the line, Jon Hiseman, Chris Farlowe, Clem Clempson, Dave Greenslade and Mark Clarke are still going strong.
Tragically, saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith succumbed to an 18 month long battle with ill heath and died at the end of 2004. Jon’s long time wife and internationally-renowned saxophonist Barbara Thompson stepped into his shoes through his long ordeal and has now become a permanent member. As Jon said, "she was the only logical choice, as she was great friends with Dick from the earliest days when she played on the first 3 albums."
Colosseum last toured in 2010, but with Barbara’s Parkinson’s condition continuing to deteriorate, Jon felt he was saying farewell to the life on the road that they started in the early 60s. However, miracles do happen and a new Swedish medication, delivered via a small pump, has transformed Barbara’s life in the last six months - so much so, that she wanted to record and tour again. The boys jumped at the chance, started writing furiously - and the new album was completed in record time.
Dave & Clem have written most of the material for Time On Our Side with Barbara & Jon contributing one number and a live version from the 2007 tour of Jack Bruce’s epic, Morning Story. One track was written by Jon & Barbara’s daughter, Ana Gracey who, at Chris’s suggestion, performs a duet with him. You are in for a surprise!
