In the late 60s, singer and guitarist Steve Mace, percussionist Kenny Ross and drummer Paul Welsh formed the band The Paupers in Baltimore (not to be confused with Canadians). After the collapse of the group, the trio began a collaboration with bassist John Nickel and multi-instrumentalist Dennis Tobell (Demian Bell). Dennis Tobell by then had a significant track record, he played with “The Moss”, “The Rogues”, accompanied on tour by Van Morrison. In 1969, the band began performing as “Maypole”. Playing at local dances, the group quickly acquires a circle of fans and they are noticed by producer and composer Jerry Ross, who immediately connects them to work on the label “Colossus”, where they record their only (at least in the 70s) album. They were called “American Led Zeppelin”, they were praised by “Rolling Stone”, they were shown on national TV shows. They toured with Bob Seeger, Nils Lofgren And Grin, “Elephant’s Memory”
