This new Goffredo Petrassi recording with Gianandrea Noseda and his Italian forces is part of Chandos’ ongoing Italian music series. The superb Coro di morti, composed and premiered during WWII, is one of the most extraordinary statements of Petrassi’s, and remains one of his most admired and frequently performed works. The Partita, one of his earliest compositions, is also amongst his most famous and still widely performed works. Chandos’ last Petrassi release was widely praised, with Gramophone stating in part: “The performances…are committed and persuasive... Excellent sound...”
