The Swedish pop group Landslaget split in 1978 and its leader Lasse Lindbom immediately began a solo career with the album "Laglös" (1979) as the first album in his own name. But just a few months later, he and his band made his first album as Lasse Lindbom Band though, he wanted to call the band Nineteen & the Sixties on this album, considering the 60's influenced selection of songs. Instead, it became the natural title of the record instead.
I read the press release about the disc's prerequisites: "To download more of the songs from the Sparetime Occupation repertoire. It was Lasse's own 60s band that played at Stockholm's youth centers during the years 1965-68 ”.
The band that at this time besides Lindbom contained Ingemar "Sture" Dunker, drums, "Nane" Quill seats, guitar, and "Beetle" Billner, guitar, which it literally stood on the album cover. This band would soon change and expand with Niklas Strömstedt and eventually develop into an institution in Swedish pop life. Not as a distinctive coverband but with mainly original material. On albums that "The Dice is Thrown" and "Romantic Blackout" while they toured diligently.
Later in the 80s Lindbom took up the red thread with cover songs but then called the band for The Husbands.
Most famous was Lasse Lindbom Band when in the fall of 1979 they appeared on Ulf Lundell's new album "Ripp rapp" and then to some extent his band came on that autumn's tour. What made Lundell choose Lindbom and this band was actually the sound in general on this cover album from May 1979 and especially on the Dylan song "Like a rolling stone".
There is no remarkable collection of cover songs on this disc. An easy-going and kind mix of pop, soul and some r & b songs. Lasse, who sings consistently, has no typical blues or soul voice and is much better in the poppy songs. But the sound on the record is, as Lundell quite rightly perceived it, perfectly craftsmanship and the band is pointed with both guitarist Janne Andersson and guitarist / harmonist Mats Ronander on some tracks. That increases the energy most noticeably.
Mediocre Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly covers are mixed with small pop masterpieces such as "When you walk in the room", "Anytime at all" and "Hang on Sloopy". But the band is also surprisingly successful with its version of The Whos Rocky "The kids are alright". And the album's only original song, "You were laughing too", is also a perfect pop song with small dance-like elements.
