Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony Nr. 38 D major, k. 504 „Prague Symphony“ Mozart's actual artistic work was limited to Vienna, but the sophisticated and more open Prague audiences welcomed him and his music with the greatest sympathies. Here his operas „Marriage of Figaro“ and „Don Giovanni“ were received with great success.

»My Orchestra is in Prague«, he described his affection for the Czech musicians of the Prague Theatre Orchestra, for which he wrote his Symphony in D major. Her mysterious, large introduction ranks among the strongest statements of the late Mozart with her wealth of contrast and her intellectual depth.

After her mysterious beginning the following Allegro is reminiscent of powerful melodic passages in the „Figaro“ and the atmosphere of the Commander in „Don Giovanni«“. The main theme reminding of the Zerlina Duet is artfully varied in the song-full second movement, an Andante. A stormy Presto concludes the Symphony.
