Soulful and spiritual sounds from Yoruban via Brooklyn combo Okonkolo! There's a wonderful sonic range here – with voices, bata drum and coro strngs at the core – often taking flight on Cantos with some really nice additional strings and horns that bring the songs to soaring, sometimes almost psychedelic heights without flying too far from the soulful roots. It's soul music in the truest sense – group leader Abraham Rodiguez is a Yoruba Chango priest – and titles include "Yemaya", "Canto Asoyin", "Wolenche Por Chango", "Oba", "Ochun", "Canto Por Obatala", "Canto Por Ochun", "Obatala" and "Elegua"
