Pat Boone - In A Metal Mood - No More Mr. Nice Guy (1997)

There's something just so delightfully, hilariously *wrong* about hearing Pat Boone jazzing and big-banding his way through hard-rock and heavy-metal standards like Metallica's "Enter Sandman", AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top", Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", and of course Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy." What makes it even better is that for the most part, he plays it perfectly straight, letting the inherent absurdity of the concept be the source of humor in itself, rather than actively trying to turn it into a parody or a comedy act. It's also a tribute to the man himself that he's comfortable poking fun at his own squarer-than-square image by doing something so patently outrageous.~Gary Akins

Having grown up with Pat Boone's unique vocal tones made this heavy-metal musical spoof increase my admiration for his daring adventure into uncharted territory. When it first appeared in news stories years ago, it increased my admiration for his ability to be humble enough to step out of his image. A rare individual.
