He grew into a world of the highest musical splendor and progress and breathed already as a child the stormy world spirit of the avant-garde: Carl Stamitz (1745-1801), son of the creator of the modern orchestra Johann Stamitz. His life was unsteady and moving: magnificent successes were in addition to experiences of bitter poverty - especially at the end of life.

After several trips through Europe - u. a. Paris, London, Berlin, Vienna and Petersburg - he found a permanent position as Director of the Academic Concerts in Jena, at Schiller's University. After his death he was quickly forgotten: Mozart's star was already high in the sky and the generation around Beethoven pushed forward. And yet: What would be the classics without striker and Dränger like Stamitz? Camerata Köln makes it clear with selected chamber music: This is the bridge without which the classics would never have reached their destination. Indispensable for those who seriously want to understand the musical evolution. Two trios, two quartets and a quintet in mixed form show a great melodic with amazing sound fantasy.
