Following the disbandment of Western Flyer in August 1979, Matt Taylor formed the Matt Taylor Band with legendary slide guitarist Dave Hole and they toured Australia during the next year, before abandoning it to form the Matt Taylor Phil Manning Band in December 1980, with former Chain bandmate Phil Manning. After the release of Oz Blues, the band broke up in December 1981, and after a Chain reunion for the Mushroom Evolution Concert to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Mushroom Records, Matt Taylor then re-formed the Matt Taylor Band with guitarist Chris Finnen.
Featuring Matt Taylor (Vocals/Harmonica), Chris Finnen (Lead Guitar), Paul Keane (Drums), and Roy Daniel (Bass), Always Land On Your Feet was produced by Graham Owens and was recorded at Planet Sound Studios in Perth.
This album features some classic Matt Taylor lyrics and inventive arrangements. The story of Bo Diddley on 33 is like a music history lesson and "The Captain" remembers seeing Matt Taylor at a solo gig at the old Troubador in Melbourne, where he showcased a number of the songs from this album, including the Bo Diddley song. The songs work incredibly well live with his unique style of telling stories to introduce them. The story telling continues on tracks like The Kitchen Magician and Always Land On Your Feet.
This is a fantastic album, a great set of Aussie blues songs embellished with plenty of harmonica, sung with Matt Taylor's unique style. A must have for Aussie blues fans!
